Some time is the past a coworker came up to me and said, "I love your attitude Greg." It took me by surprise because he is one of the guys I really don't see as a happy fellow. But you don't know who is watching and listening to you daily as you go about your business.
A positive attitude can help you with promotion in your work place and it's a great skill to have as parent. But let us look at the promotion benefit. Your boss usually get feedback from other department employees. So when it is time to select someone to manage or supervise an area he would not hesitate to select your name. Having a great attitude as an effective communicator in the home helps the family to stay together. They see you as a leader and someone dependable. They see you as a respectable parent and a friend. Putting a bright smile together with a positive attitude will make your life much more easy.

Ask Open-ended Questions
Many people usually ask close-ended questions. But what are close-ended questions? These are questions that do not encourage an answer more than a yes or a no. An effective communicator are skilled and knows when to use these kind of questions. But we are more focused on open-ended questions because in work places and meetings you'll find more open-ended questions than close-ended questions. Open-ended questions gives you an opportunity to elaborate and share more information. It will put the speaker in a position that he must answer with many words instead of a no or yes.
You should use mush open-ended questions in meetings and discussions. You can learn much more about the a specific topic that you do not understand or not clear. You can also learn much more about the speaker with these kid of questions. A lot of people uses themselves as an example when describing a situation. Or they would share an experience they would never forget. I would encourage you to use more open-ended questions and encourage the people around you to do the same.

Listening
Listening is one of the first
effective communication skill that is addressed in books and other literature.
A good listener encourages a detail conversation that can go on until all
information is gathered. Listening can either be passive or active. Passive
listening is just like hearing and nothing much is registering in the brain.
But active listening on the other hand is when the information is interpreted.
Listening must be done with a purpose so that it is easy to recall what was
said.
So you might wonder what are some of the benefits of listening. One of most important benefits of listening is that it expands your knowledge. When you listen you will learn or grasp what is required of you to perform daily or in your capacity. Another benefit is that it encourages a great relationship with coworkers and even in the home. Practice effective listening and most people will see you as someone who they can depend on to share vital information.
